A few days ago we received the first snow fall of the winter season (this one that has just started). It was a brief flurry that came down very quickly, a thin layer settled and managed to turn things white for a short while but the whole lot didn’t last long and was gone by late morning.
It was so quick that the plants probably didn’t notice. The borders are beginning to look much thinner with many of the herbaceous plants dying down, leaving bare patches and the evergreens to go through the winter. In the places where you can see the soil, small green shoots of over a thousand snowdrops are beginning to appear.
