OMG! RHS Wisley!

One morning, when it was looking to turn into another fine sunny day, I thought to myself, “I really ought to finish off pulling the ivy roots from the patio wall with the electrical pliers.” (as one often does). However, that thought quickly left my mind as that day was the day I was being taken to RHS Garden Wisley, aka “Wisley”.

Wisley is the home and flagship garden of the Royal Horticultural Society in the UK. It has sixty acres of gardens and is simply an incredible and inspiring place for anyone – even those who aren’t into gardening but can appreciate plants. The scale of Wisley is vast and there is so much to see that I wanted to bring a tent and sleeping bag, as well as a spade and wheelbarrow.

Now that we have moved, we are only 35 minutes from Wisley but I’ve been so busy in the house and garden that this is the first time I’ve had the chance to go.

In the time we had we didn’t manage to look at all parts of Wisley and the photos concentrate on the parts I liked best. There was so much more to look at and drool over I couldn’t begin to remember it all.

No doubt there will be many more trips there in the future, just as soon as I finish pulling those ivy roots out of the patio wall.

Oh goodness, their borders look just like mine! (falls over laughing). Glad you enjoyed your visit, Sunil, even though I love my garden, sometimes it is nice to look at perfection. I see they have loads of californian poppy, and I do too. Love their brightness on sunny days.

Indeed Mrs Mac, I only went to see if they had managed to catch up with my garden, but alas, no. I want to get lots of californian poppies self seeding around my garden, perhaps around the edges of the drive, but I need to grab a seed packet first and put it on the list of jobs. They are very bright and you need shades to look at them in sunlight.

It must have made for a beautiful day. There is so much to see. I have been only once but remember it fondly.

Hello Alain, it was a stunningly hot summer day for it and you're right, it's just not possible to go around everything they have in one day. I shall be looking at the parts I missed in future visits, then seeing what it looks like in the different seasons and seeing new border and gardens they are developing and so on.

I love Wisley too. What a great way to spend a day and what a strange use for electrical pliers!

Hi Sarah, it was such a great day out, I really needed that break. The pliers are brilliant for pulling out tough roots, there's a satisfying "give" each time one comes loose.

I love Wisley but have a difficult time getting out of the garden shop. All those wonderful books!

Hi Lynn, we didn't have time to go through the shop as I wanted to spend all my time out in the gardens. Just going through the shop and the plant store themselves is a dedicated day out in itself!

We also loved Wisley when we were there. Lucky you to live so close. Weeding is for cloudy days.

Hi Jason, we have had a few cloudy days and I have spent them weeding, oddly enough, it just seemed to work out that way. Hopefully, after pulling the roots out of the wall I won't have to deal with it again for some time.
